Fruity Food – 2019

One of the most effective ways of learning is through experience. And when this experience involves play and fun, we provide a unique opportunity for a meaningful assimilation of contents. This was the Fruit Shop Project developed during our English classes throughout the 2^nd semester of 2019.

The students from Infantil 4 learned about Plants in their Science classes. They had the opportunity to observe different plants and their parts (root, stem, leaves, flowers and fruits). Using this theme as a starting point, we expanded children’s vocabulary by introducing the names of the fruits in English and how to describe their shapes and colors.

However, we went further and created an activity called “Fruity Food” where students could be waiters and customers, ask and answer, identify and choose their fruits and in the end thank for the delicious meal. Our fruit shop was so successful that the number of customers always increased! “What do you want?”, “I want purple grapes”, “Thank you!” are examples of structures that students could use throughout this process.

With the great success of our fruit shop, it was proposed to students to transport this activity to the virtual environment. And so we developed the “Fruity Food”. The goal of the game is to serve customers within a set time frame. However, the number of customers increases with each level, which makes the game dynamic and challenging.

Students participated in the development of the game, drawing the fruits and recording the lines of the waiter and customers.

Uma das formas mais eficazes de aprendizado é por meio da vivência. Quando essa vivência envolve brincadeira e diversão, proporcionamos uma oportunidade singular de assimilação significativa dos conteúdos propostos. Assim foi o Projeto Frutaria trabalhado durante as aulas de Inglês no 2^o semestre de 2019.

Em paralelo ao estudo do Infantil 4 sobre as plantas nas aulas da área de Conhecimento da Natureza e Sociedade, as crianças ampliaram seu repertório de vocabulário em nossas aulas,  introduzindo o nome das frutas em inglês. Ao descrevê-las, identificamos suas principais características, destacando sua cor predominante.

Criamos também uma atividade chamada “Frutaria Fruity Food”, na qual os alunos puderam ser garçons e clientes e, dessa forma, perguntar e responder, identificar e escolher suas frutas e, no fim, agradecer pelo atendimento. Nossa frutaria fez tanto sucesso que o número de clientes sempre aumentava! “What do you want?”, “I want purple grapes”, “Thank you!” são exemplos de estruturas que os alunos puderam utilizar ao longo desse processo.

Com o grande sucesso de nossa frutaria, foi proposto aos alunos transportar nossa brincadeira para o ambiente virtual. E assim surgiu o Fruity Food. O objetivo do jogo é servir os clientes em um intervalo de tempo definido. Porém, o número de clientes aumenta a cada nível, o que faz com que o jogo seja dinâmico e desafiador.

Os alunos participaram ativamente no desenvolvimento do jogo, desenhando as frutas e gravando as falas do garçom e dos clientes.
