Project “Our City”

During the year of 2016, 1st Grade students studied the city of São Paulo in their History and Geography classes.

Having the city in mind and also working with students’ own experiences, we worked with the theme “places in the city” in our English classes. Using Google Street View app, we went on a virtual tour on the streets around the school and took note of the different places we saw. Using this activity as a starting point, we listed some places that exist in our city. Through games and activities, we learned and practiced the vocabulary and decided to create our own virtual cities. Each student was responsible for a store, or transportation.

The aims of this project are:

• to enable students to produce orally the vocabulary related to places in the city;
• to identify and describe in English places that exist in the city;
• to enable the use of the English language, both for listening comprehension and oral production.

Durante o ano de 2016, os alunos do 1º ano do Ensino Fundamental realizaram um estudo sobre a cidade de São Paulo nas aulas de História e Geografia.

Partindo desse conhecimento e da vivência dos alunos, estudamos o tema “places in the city” (lugares na cidade) nas aulas de Inglês. Utilizando o aplicativo Google Street View, caminhamos virtualmente pelas ruas próximas à escola e registramos os estabelecimentos que encontramos. A partir daí, elencamos locais que existem em São Paulo. Utilizando jogos e brincadeiras, praticamos o vocabulário obtido e criamos nossas próprias cidades virtuais, e cada aluno ficou responsável por um local ou meio de transporte.

Os objetivos desse projeto são:

• desenvolver as habilidades de compreensão e produção oral;
• utilizar o vocabulário relacionado à cidade por meio de produção oral;
• identificar e descrever em inglês os locais que existem na cidade.
